Read "The Reality Ring" for FREE!

Today, I at last finished my revisions for “The Reality Ring”, the short story sequel to “In Stasis”. It continues the adventures of Will Vullerman, the elite ASP agent.

And guess what? For those of you who have already finished “In Stasis” (or even those who haven't), I'm repeating the pattern: you blog-followers get to read it...for free!

Here are your mission instructions:

First, you must be a follower or “chronic reader” of this blog at the time of this post to be eligible for a free copy of “The Reality Ring”. That just means that you have to be one of the current 130+ Google followers, or that you're someone who has been reading this blog for a while. (If you're someone who followed my blog after I posted about “In Stasis” but before I published this post, email me and I'll see what I can do to get you both stories.)

Second, I need to receive an email from you in order for you to get your free copy. Send me an email at jtbdude [at] gmail [dot] com requesting a copy of “The Reality Ring”, letting me know for verification purposes that you're a follower or a reader of this blog.

Lastly, make sure and tell me the format in which you'd like to read the story. I can supply three versions: .odt, PDF, and .doc. Since I haven't formatted the story for Kindle, I won't be able to give out .prc files. If you don't specify what file type you want, I'll send it in .doc.

Once I get an email from you, please be patient. It may take up to a week or longer for me to reply. African internet is less than stellar when it comes to uploads.

There are no strings attached. While I'd value your opinions and critiques, they are not required for you to receive the story.

Remember, folks, this isn't an indefinite offer. This is only available to blog followers from now up until the time the story is published. After the story is published, this post no longer valid. So make sure and hurry if you want to read the story!

(A note: as of right now, there are two more Will Vullerman stories waiting to be revised. However, those two stories require a lot more work than the others did. Combine that with the upcoming contest of NaNoWriMo, it means I probably won't get around to revising them until December at the soonest. My apologies!)

Well? What are you waiting for? Email away.

And happy reading. :)

Various Newses

No, I have no idea why I added an extra "es" top, and no, I'm not related to Gollum, and no, I haven't been reading Lord of the Rings.

Questions done?  Good.  No?

No, we haven't left yet for Africa.  I'll post before we do, be sure about that, even if it's a 50-word post. :)  I'll keep you informed.

In the meantime, I still love Kansas and Cheez-Its and Doctor Who.  And writing.

Kansas!

I wish these were conveniently and accidentally dropped off at my house. ^_^

Stetsons are cool!

And speaking of writing, all I've been writing of late are geometry proofs (technically, I'm filling in the blanks) and essays.  Blech.

Hold it, I tell a lie. O_o  I have written five hundred words or so in a modest little story I'm writing in my spare time.  It's a fantasy tale in a world called who-knows-what.  (No, that's not the name.  Call it that and I'll get out my Cheez-It cannon.)

In the meantime, I've been watching Doctor Who and doing a lot of schoolwork.  The series finale of Doctor Who is actually next week. (I am SO. EXCITED. GAH!)

Also, I wish to inform you that the Director at Castles, Quills, and Cameras is having a giveaway!  This most excellent blogger is giving away two books; one of which I can attest to being a great read. :)  Here's the link to the giveaway post.

And...well, I've run out of things to blog about. O_o  Ask me questions, folks.  Maybe I'll have a Q & A post next time.  It'll at least give me something to blog about. ;)

See ya later, friends!  Write well, and may your ink stay full!

I'll leave you with one last quote:  "He who laughs last thinks the slowest."

Edits and Updates

(Not my image.  Cool, though, eh?)

I might not be the greatest blogger on earth, but at least I've been writing, right?  Here's what I've gotten done so far:
  • I'm on chapter four out of twelve in my OYAN novel; the word count is 6,629 words.  Roughly 26, 27 pages.  It's not too bad, yet, but I have a lot of brainstorming and researching to do in the next few chapters.
  • I rewrote several sections and did one quick edit over the entirety of The Book of Shaldu.  It is now 52,900 words, with an epic new ending chapter.  Like I have said before, I thought the ending too dark and ended up writing just one more chapter in The Book of Shaldu.  I sent it off to some friends to critique as soon as I finished.  (That made me really nervous.  This is the first time in history that Jake of the Sadaar's novels have been read by any mortal.  What?  What's that you say?  Of course I'm immortal.)
  • This blog post.  Yeah, I count them.  Judge me not!
Also, I'd like to post several other things:

First, Michelle Archer at Arrowhead Reviews is having a giveaway of a book called Beyond the Dead Forest.  Don't join. ;) I want a free book! (Who doesn't?)

Second, I recently discovered (more like rediscovered) a Christian blogger who composes music.  His name's Jon Maiocco. I have listened to most everything he has up there, and I can assure you, that guy has some serious talent.  If you have a bit of time and some headphones, I'd encourage you to check out his Celtic song and his Isle of Swords song.  Those are my favorites. :)  Or you could just head to the main page of his blog to browse through them all.

Do Y'Really Want to Know the Winner?

Hello, readers!  Greetings!  Jake here. :)  I have come to announce the winner of the unbelievable Blood of Kings giveaway.  I have barely escaped death and chocolate rabbits to bring you this news.

But now that I'm here, I'm not entirely sure if you want to know.  I  mean, it's not like you entered or anything.  Or invested any time.  Or effort.  Or maybe you just don't want to win.

Well, I suppose I have to do it sometime.  Just remember: never put off 'til tomorrow what you can put off to the day after tomorrow.  And since it's the day after tomorrow...

First, I must put up the Blood of Kings banner.  Just for good measure.  After all, it is the indirect subject of this post.

So, are you ready?  Really ready?  I mean, ready to face a charging dragon-mouse hybrid bent on utter destruction and the oppression of cows?  That kind of ready?

All right, enough delay.  I present to thee, the winner of the Jill Williamson giveaway!

Congrats, Seth! Shoot me your address and choice of the books, and I'll send them on to Mrs. Williamson.  If you don't reply in three days, then I shall draw another winner.  Thanks so much to those who participated! You guys rock.

And just to give you all a little reward, have some pie. :D

And some cheese!

Thanks again, readers.  Ta-ta!

Interview with Jill Williamson & A Giveaway

Greetings, blog readers!

(This picture is on my desktop.  *grin*)

If you remember, I have been raving about a book (one that I have yet to read) and an author for a while now.  From Darkness Won, by Jill Williamson, the last in "The Blood of Kings epicness", as one person put it.

You've read my review (here), so I have no need to rave about it on this post. And raving (good as it is) is not what I came here to do.  In actuality, I have conducted my first interview--with Jill Williamson!  And I get to share it with you.  Buckle in, folks.

Please welcome Jill Williamson, all!  *widespread applause*

*******

Why do you write? And why do you specifically write speculative fiction?

"I want to tell exciting stories to teens that inspire them to grow into men and women of integrity. I want to put my love for God within the pages of my stories and show the readers that life is fulfilling when you know your maker.

"I’ve always loved reading fantasy novels. But when I first started writing, I wrote nonfiction articles for teens. Frank Peretti’s This Present Darkness really opened my imagination to the possibility of writing something Christian. I had never read Christian fiction before that book. When I did start writing, I didn’t set out to write something speculative. I just wanted to write something entertaining for teens. I wrote a teen spy story first. Then I wrote a story about a cloning lab. Then I wrote my first fantasy novel. I remember being so frustrated because I kept hearing that new writers needed to figure out what genre they wrote, and I didn’t have a clue what my genre was. Was it fantasy? Science Fiction? Urban fantasy? Contemporary? Adventure? At Mount Hermon in 2007, I went to Jeff Gerke’s class on speculative fiction and was pleased to discover that I was writing in the same genre. It was called speculative fiction. What a relief!"

When was the first time you were infected with the writer's virus and felt the symptoms?

"I wanted to speak to teens. I discovered that sometimes, people hire speakers based on articles written by the speaker. So I looked into writing articles. Then the new Harry Potter book came out, and a new barrage of debates within the church community flared up as to whether or not the books were bad for Christians to read. The debate inspired me to write my own blockbuster-style novel for teens that glorified God. Once I started that spy kid story, I was hooked and didn’t want to go back to writing articles aver again!"

Who's your favorite wordsmith?

"I have too many favorites to single one out. In no particular order, I love Jane Austen, Ted Dekker, Lisa Samson, Robert Liparulo, Caroline Keene, C.S. Lewis, Frank Peretti, Jenny B. Jones, Rick Riordan, Brandilyn Collins, J.R.R. Tolkien, Suzanne Collins, Michael Crichton, Cathy Gohlke, Anthony Horowitz, Caroline Cooney, John Grisham, Megan Whalen Turner, Melody Carlson, Nicolas Sparks, J.K. Rowling, Francine Rivers, Randy Ingermanson. The list goes on and on. I enjoy stories that make me laugh, cry, or stay up all night because I can’t put the thing down."

If you were to become proficient in the use of a certain weapon from your novel, what weapon would you pick? And who would you choose to train you?

"I’d want to use a bow, and I’d want Kates to train me (I don’t know if I could stomach Inko! Lol). I think a bow would be a good weapon for me. It would keep me far enough away from my enemy—or dinner—that I’d be able to run away if need be. LOL"

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

"World Class Chocolate from Baskin Robbins. It’s a swirl of chocolate and white chocolate ice cream."

What is the best tip on writing you would give to an aspiring writer? (Aside from "read a lot", which seems to be a common one.)

"Write, write, write. Get into a critique group where you feel you are learning. And finish that first book. Many new writers tend to get stuck writing that first book for years. Then they get so close to it they can’t let go. Train yourself to be a writer by doing the hard work of completing a full manuscript. Then go back and rewrite it. And rewrite. And when you are done, put it down and write another book. Then write another. Then another.

"One of my favorite writing quotes is from Michael Crichton. He said, “Books aren't written - they're rewritten. Including your own. It is one of the hardest things to accept, especially after the seventh rewrite hasn't quite done it.” It’s so true."

How much do you write in a typical day?

"It depends. If I’m not in the middle of a book, sometimes I don’t write at all. I might be promoting instead or blogging. I try never to write on Sundays. If I’m working on a book, I try to write for three-four hours a day. Sometimes more. If a deadline is close, I might write all day long for weeks straight."

What is the strangest experience you've had as a writer?

"Winning the Christy Award. I wanted to win it, but I didn’t really think I would. When I saw my name scroll by on my TV screen, it was so strange. It felt like it was happening to someone else."

How did the epic saga we now know as The Blood of Kings Trilogy get published?

"I wasn’t trying to get published when I submitted my first chapter of my fantasy novel to Jeff Gerke at the 2008 Oregon Christian Writers’ Summer Coaching Conference. Marcher Lord Press’ submission guidelines were clear: no young adult novels.

I’d met Jeff at the 2007 Mount Hermon Christian Writer’s conference and used his editorial services on a different novel. When I saw he was at OCW, I submitted my manuscript to him hoping to glean wisdom. I was surprised when he wanted to meet with me. I was even more surprised when he wanted to read the full.

“Why does it have to be YA?” he asked.

As soon as I got home, I looked over the book and sent it off. A few months later I got an email from Jeff that said: “Do you happen to be by a phone right now so that I can call you?”

And that was the beginning of a new adventure."

*******

Mrs. Williamson has been gracious enough to also provide a book to give away on Teenage Writer!  But this giveaway is unique: the winner gets a choice between any one of her three books.  If you haven't heard or read The Blood of Kings trilogy, then (should you win), you can choose to receive By Darkness Hid, book one.  If you've read the first two, then, by all means, ask for From Darkness Won!  Only one book is being given away, however; but that book is a choice of the three Blood of Kings books.

To enter, all you need to do is post a comment and answer one of the three questions below.  If that is done, you are automatically entered in the giveaway!  **NOTE** You will not be entered in the giveaway if you do not comment or you do not answer one of the questions.

1) Who's your favorite author?
2) Where's your favorite place?
3) Who's your favorite fictional character?

Fire away, readers!  Make this the biggest giveaway yet!  This giveaway ends May 6.

Upcoming Book & a Giveaway

Hey'a readers, writers, spatulas!  .....spatulas?  *grimace of fear*  Just wait, Frank.  Let me finish the post first.  I can't write posts while weeping and gnashing my teeth.

Anyway, some exciting news coming up.  Firstly, the long anticipated end to the Blood of Kings trilogy (Jill Williamson)--From Darkness Won--is coming out APRIL FIRST.  April Fool's Day, unfortunately, but I'm hoping this isn't a joke. o_O

Check out the epic cover art. :|

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am scrambling for money right now.  I can't wait for this....wow, it looks so EPIC.... *stares*  If you haven't read the first books in this series yet, GO AND ORDER THEM RIGHT NOW.  I'm serious.  They are THAT good.  Some of the best writing I've ever read in my reading career: no joke.

Other news, there's a giveaway going on!  It isn't mine, but it is epic nonetheless.  The Director is giving away a whole slew of stuff in celebration of spring break, I believe.  Including the Roman Britain Trilogy (from which was made the movie "The Eagle", I believe).  Which I really really really want to read. :|  So beware--you'll have to fight for it.

Castles, Quills, and Cameras

That's about all. :)  I'll try to pull together something meaningful sometime soon.  Until then, adieu!

Invasion of the Feechies WINNER!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Elves and InfidElves!  I am pleased to present to thee the WINNER of the Feechie Invasion Giveaway!

However...some suspense.  (I hear that groaning...)

First of all, the answers to my tricky little Scripture references.  The first one was the only one solved. O_o  It seems I have to be less obscure next time...

1)  The Scripture is Isaiah 65:25, and the allegory is taken from The Binding of the Blade series.

2)  The Scripture is Revelations 11:4-5, and the allegory is taken from The Oracles of Fire series.  (This was extremely obscure, and not really an obvious allegory: should the Oracles of Fire be injured, the person who harmed them dies.)

3)  The Scripture is Genesis 3:15b, and the allegory is taken from the Wormling Series.

Yeah, yeah, next time I'll try something easier. :P

Anyway...so what's at stake?

A brand new copy of The Charlatan's Boy.  And a note from me.  Valuable, eh? ;)

So, who's the winner?  Truth is, I don't know.  But I'll find out.  *goes to Random.org*

*waits*

*punches in variables*

*pushes the button*

The winner is....

(Yes, that is a turkeyduck.)

Congratulations!  Grab your mailing address and shoot me an email. :)  I shall soon have The Charlatan's Boy hurtling your way one way or another....

Giveaway Extended!

Hey all!  No, I have not been eaten by fire-breathing feechies out to get my hair and feed it to their crocodiles...no, I haven't been eating weird food late at night.  Why?

So, anyway, the giveaway is still a go.  I've decided to extend it, due to the amount of participants as well as my lack of 'advertising' (I've been busier than a spring-cleaning pack rat these days).  The original date was Feb. 4th--I'm extending it to Febuary 14th. That will give us a full week. :)

For those of you out of the loop, I'm holding a giveaway of a brand new copy of The Charlatan's Boy, Jonathan Rogers' newest book regarding the phenomenon of feechies.  You can see my previous post if you want to join or just feel the water a bit.  And see if you can solve those verses!

Hoping the feechies won't catch me,

Invasion of the Feechies!

For those of you who caught my subtle hintings in my next-to-last post (yeah, I thought they were a wee bit too subtle), this is indeed something monumental, creeping in through the crimson back door.

GIVEAWAY!

That is right!  Didn't you heart just leap at the sound?  The feechies are invading Teenage Writer in the form of a giveaway!  Tis the INVASION OF THE FEECHIES GIVEAWAY! :D

*applause recording*

The book?

The one and only, brand-new paperback: The Charlatan's Boy, a Christian Fantasy with a Southern twang!  (You can check out my review of it here.)

Many thanks to WaterBrook Multnomah for the inadvertent opportunity for this giveaway.  (They sent it to me on accident and said I could use it for a giveaway.  Oh well. ;)

Now, the rules go thus:

1. You must be within the United States or Canada to enter.  My apologies, Aussies and European friends (as well as anyone else who is outside of either category). :)

2. You cannot be a sibling.   (Those of you who live near me and know me...no secret pacts to evilly steal the prize.)  By the way, I forgot to mention that Manny the Magnificent Mooch (mwahahha) managed to make up the title.  Wow, alliteration galore.

Now, to the good stuff.  Like my other giveaways, I shall conduct this by way of entries.  You do yada yada and get yada yada entries into the giveaway.  Then, once the giveaway is over, I pop the numbers into the Random Number Generator and poof!  We get a winner!

Now, here are the tasks you can undertake to attempt to conquer your opponents and join the feechie side.

1) You can be a follower or follow my blog.  Bam.  Instant entry.

2) You can blog about the giveaway.  Bang.  Instant entry.  Please give me the link once you've blogged about it via email or a comment below, so I can verify. :)  And, should someone come off of your blog and enter my giveaway, you get an extra entry.

3) Now, this is the tricky part.  Whoever can find the reference to one following passages of Scripture AND tie it to something in a Christian Fantasy book (believe me, all of them have a tie-in), gets another entry.  You may NOT look it up on an online Bible site or anywhere else on the Internet.  Believe me, it's just too easy that way. ;)  Feel free to scour your Bible, though.

Here are the passages. :)  Once someone finds the references AND the tie-in (you cannot get the entry without it) it can no longer be claimed for an entry.  So hurry! :O  Please make note of this: You can only figure out ONE reference and fantasy tie-in per person.  This gets you one entry--you CANNOT get two of the references and tie-ins for two entries, etc..  Please do not spoil it for other seekers. :)

Seek, and you shall find.

1)
"The wolf and the lamb will feed together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox,
and dust will be the serpent’s food.
They will neither harm nor destroy
   on all my holy mountain,”
            says the LORD."

2)
They are “the two olive trees” and the two lampstands, and “they stand before the Lord of the earth.” If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die.
3) (this one is the last half of a verse)

"He will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”

Good luck!  You'll need it. ;)  Some of the fantasy tie-in's are rather obscure.

One last note: this giveaway ends February 4th, at 11:59 PM.  The winner will be required to send me their address so I can mail the book.

All right, then!

Let
the
Giveaway
BEGIN!!

For those curious, the thread died at 72 comments.  Not too bad, eh?  It went for several weeks until Gillian dealt a death-blow. :)

Again, congradulations!  Over and away,

Déjà Vu! Kill this Thread...

Here's what's happening, folks.

Hypothetically, I am very busy.  School, writing NaNoWriMo (the word count above is NOT the current word count!), more school, guitar, church stuff, etc.

Let's say, hypothetically, that I win a book in a giveaway.  Pretty cool, eh?

But let's say I already own the book.  Let's say that it's a popular, new book that was published this year.  Hypothetically, I decide to have a giveaway...

Okay, so it isn't really a hypothesis.  It's the real deal.  Yup, another giveaway.  Cool, huh?

But as I said, I am very busy.  Extremely busy, it can be said.  So what am I going to do?  Conducting a giveaway takes time for me.  Quite a bit.

Now, you want to know what book I am giving away, and how you can get in on the giveaway, right?

But wait a second...I once heard of this idea one time that required almost no effort from me...wow, blast from the past...

Well, I'm done with the suspense.  Here's what I'm doing:

"Kill this thread and win Venom and Song."

Déjà Vu!  Seriously!

For those of you not in on the 'joke', a 'Kill this thread and win Venom and Song' once occurred to win a signed copy of Venom and Song from one of the authors himself, Wayne Thomas Batson.  And that is almost the entire reason I have followers at all.  I met a lot of other awesome bloggers as a result of that contest (which went for months!).

So here's the rules:

1) All you have to do in order to try and win is comment.

Easy enough, hm?  But there's more.

2) You must be the last person to comment before the thread dies.

Easier said then done!  A thread 'dies' when no one has posted for one day.  24 hours.  You kill the thread?  You win Venom and Song.  But if someone comments before then, the thread lives another 24 hours!  If Bob's comment was the last one for 23 hours and 59 minutes and someone posts, then the thread lives!

But as WTB did, I am adding another requirement.

3) You must post something MEANINGFUL.  You can't just comment and say, "Comment".  Do something meaningful!  Share Bible verses, quotes, daily stuff, how your writing is going, what your dog did yesterday, the terrible financial state of the government (.5 million dollars in debt a minute?!?!), even talk to the other participants!  Just make sure it has something meaningful.  I shall swoop in with my Pen of Doom if you don't do something meaningful--I'm serious.

And, of course, the prize is a new copy of Venom and Song.  :)  Comment away, folks!  Are ye going to be the first commenter again, Squeaks?  ;)

Don't worry, I shall read every comment.  Perhaps I shall join in the discussion as well!  Tis up to you.  And siblings...well, ye can participate, but ye cannot win.  ;)  LOL.

Are ye ready?  Have yer fingers been pruned and primed?  Is your keyboard greased?

FIRE AWAY!...and good luck. :)

Oh, by the way: the other Kill this Thread contest ended with 1,752 comments. ;)  And no one actually killed it, in the end...

The Terrible...NaNoWriMo

Yes, it's ANOTHER post about NaNoWriMo.  They seem to be floating all around the blogosphere, eh?

But first...some news.

Star-Dreamer has opened up the voting on the First Chapter contest on her blog, the Pen and the Parchment--which means ye can go read them and vote on your favorite one.  Mine is up as well...so if ye can guess which one it is, then go ahead and read it!

Millard Shining Light is also having a giveaway of the awesome book 'Beyond the Reflection's Edge' by Bryan Davis, a most excellent author.

And now....*drumroll*

NaNoWriMo has begun.

Writers everywhere are scrambling to the NaNo website (which is currently flooded with users and extremely slow), updating their words counts, and beginning to write a 50,000 word novel in ONE MONTH.  Pick up your quill pens, folks!  It's going to be a bumpy and exhilirating ride.

I myself am beginning to write my next novel already--'The Book of Shaldu'. It's a new work, one that isn't affiliated with any of my other novels.  It is, however (surprise!) a Christian fantasy novel.

Time to get out the flaming pen again, folks!  >_>  Hopefully it will catch fire again and burn brightly...but right now *yawn* I am very tired with only a hundred words written in 'The Book of Shaldu'.  *sigh*  What happened to the five-thousand word passion that fueled me to finish my novel earlier? :P

I already show symptoms for NaNo rush, though.  Wanna know what they are?

They include:
-Procrastinating
-Beating my head against the wall
-Eating copious amounts of sugar-infused items
-Writing (though, regrettably, there has been little of this)
-Yawning
-Staring into the fire
-Wasting an hour of my time trying (and not succeeding) to access the NaNo site
-Staring into the sky
-Staring at the blank computer screen
-Wondering if anyone is going to read this post
-RABBITS! :O

Aye, I am done. :P  There may be a lapse in blogging, readers--just a reminder.  >_>  And much of the blogging you will get shall most likely be reading will be incoherent babbling about NaNo.  Be prepared for the worst, readers.

And keep me accountable!  I MUST reach 50,000 words!!

Which reminds me...one of my traits (I hesitate to say 'virtues') will work well with me for this.  At one time it may get me in trouble, but also it helped me finish my trilogy--one of the sole traits that kept me going in that time.  Can you guess what it is?

Stubbornness.  Absolute stubborness.  And perhaps that stubborness will accomplish this 50,000 word goal.

With that note, I shall leave and procrastinate some more.  *sigh*  What happened to "Throw procrastination into a pit?"  I'd be much obliged if ye'd give me some help on this...

Farewell. >_>

And the main point of this?  The illustrious blog, Worthy Fantasy, is BACK, and resurrected!  They posted just yesterday--it's a great blog with a lot of awesome articles about fantasy, so feel free to click on the link above.  Oh, and I forgot to mention--I am now among their number, along with a couple other awesome bloggers.

Besides all of this news, I posted a poem on my other blog that got an great response--because of its randomness.  Be prepared for rhyming randomness--I'm serious.  Here's the first couple of lines.

The Flow'st Upon a Midnight

I said to him, and he to me,
That I had gone and ate a tree,
The flow'st upon a midnight three,
And caused the cat to flee.

If you want to read some more of it, you can go here.  Tell me what you think! :)

Updates? News? Giveaways? All of the Above

First things first: I have just passed 10 participants in my giveaway, which means I will be giving away TWO copies of Isle of Fire!  :)   Congrats.  Only five days left until the giveaway ends!  If you want to get in on the giveaway, you can go here and comment to tell me you want to join.

Now, I have several tidbits of news and some other stuff as well.

Right now, I'm reading J. R. Parker's Kestrel's Midnight Song.  You can expect a review coming up soon.

And then there's news of several giveaways.

Squeaks, at Hidden Doorways, is having the voting for the Green Giveaway.  It's a writing/giveaway (technically, it's a contest) thing where writers submit a descriptive piece of their work.  I submitted a piece, so be sure to check it out!  It needs votes, and lots of 'em.  The pieces submitted are spectacular.

Star-Dreamer (a.k.a. Nichole White) over at the Pen and the Parchment is having a giveaway...with THREE different books.  :)  It's a First Chapter contest, where writers get brave and submit their first chapter (and possibly the prologue as well).  It needs a lot of entries as well.  I'll be sending in my own first chapter soon.  Be brave!  Send in your chapter. :)

On other news, my novel, Sadaar, is moving again...slowly.  But I'm working on it. :)  I'm aiming for possibly 50,000 words on it, but I have no idea where it might end up.

And lastly...November is coming.  And with it, NaNoWriMo.  I'll be sharing an outline/idea that I have for it soon, probably after the giveaway has finished.

The Fantastic Flaming Giveaway

It's here--the giveaway.  To be specific, the FANTASTIC FLAMING GIVEAWAY.  Note the flaming...thing to the left.  :)   I made it myself.

Take a good look at it!  Be amazed!  :)

This is in celebration of three things; first, I have reached 40 followers!  Second, I have surpassed 100 posts, and last, this is celebrating anyone and everyone that is writing a novel.  If you've written anything at all in your novel, congradulations!

To get into this giveaway, you have to follow my blog.  This doesn't get you 'entries' like last time, but it is required if you want to get in on this giveaway.

Now, here are the guidelines for getting entries.

1) If you are writing a novel, you get an automatic entry.  Yep, you heard me right.  :)  Post your word count in a comment--or your chapter/scene count, if you don't want to share your word count--and that will get you an entry.  You have to post it in a comment, or else I won't know you wish to participate in the giveaway.

2) If you post about this giveaway on your blog (or some social networking site) you will get an entry.  Post the URL in a comment so I can verify it.  :)  It would be preferable if you copied and used the 'The Fantastic Flaming Giveaway' picture in your post.

3) If you participate in the next Word War (yes, there's going to be a Word War II), you get an entry.  If you win the word war, you get an extra entry!  :)

And as for the prize....

A brand new copy of Wayne Thomas Batson's book Isle of Fire.   Perhaps not the newest book that's out, but, hey; it's a free book.  :)

And if I get more than 10 participants in the Fantastic Flaming Giveaway...Well, there will be two winners.  Two people wil win a copy of Isle of Fire if I get more than 10 participants.  :)

Coming up is a Word War, and a chance to win extra entries into this giveaway.

If you don't wish to--or just plain can't--post things in comments, like word count for your novel, you can email it to me (jtbdude[at]gmail[dot]com).

Oh, and one more thing; I just started the writing section of One Year Adventure Novel, so I'll be posting the word count of that on the top of the blog as well as my Sadaar word count.

Get ready....this giveaway ends October 11, my birthday.  Moahaha. :)

PS; No close family may participate.  Yes, that means YOU, Vrenith.

40+100=G

In case you are wondering, I have not gone off the deep end--or the 'algebra' end, as I might say.  I did that a long time ago.  But for those of you who are math-savvy, you understand the above equation.  40 followers plus 100 posts equuals...G.   G is usually for Gandalf, but this time around it stands for something else--giveaway.  Wait patiently!  It will come soon enough. :)

In other matters, I've decided to have another reflective post.  The following timeline is of my blog!  Have fun.

--

THE AGE OF SILENCE
~March, 2010

This is the Age of Silence--I had no blog followers, and two comments in all of my 20 or so posts--one from Andrew Peterson (there's a story behind that one, and how I recieved it!), and one from J. R. Parker, who is now the author of Kestrel's Midnight Song.  :)  He became my first follower.

THE AGE OF THREADS
~April, 2010

I began to pick up followers around this time, Squeaks being one of the first and still an active follower today. :)

On March 31 or 30, I believe, I tried my hand in a 'Kill This Thread' contest for a copy of Venom and Song on Wayne Thomas Batson's blog.  Believe it or not, it is still going on today!  XD  This is how many people began following me, as well as my comments on other blogs.

THE AGE OF THE DARK KING
~May, 2010

Some of you older followers may remember my segmented story 'The Dark King'.   I posted the Dark King through May, and I was delighted at the response. :)  I'm still editing it off and on today (lol).  My blog picked up steam then, as well. :)

THE AGE OF COMMENTS
~June-September, 2010

Throughout all of this period of time, I gained many followers, had my first giveaway, and--the most remarkable in my sight--I have had at least one comment on every single post since the fifth of July.  Wow!

--

The giveaway I am going to have--soon--is not only because of followers and posts--though those were a convient addend--but also because of all of you readers.  Thanks for reading Teenage Writer, everyone! :D

A Rather Interesting Use of Foreshadowing...

40 is an interesting number. Nice, round, and above all, it is fun to watch the faces of your parents when you say, "For...ty..." But what am I talking about? You'll see.

First, Squeaks is having a contest...er, giveaway...thing. :) It's called the Green Giveaway--and it would be nice if you'd head on over to Hidden Doorways and give him a Hello. Oh, and while you're there, you can vote for my storythingamabobber. :)

Second, Nichole White (a.k.a. Star Dreamer) is having a giveaway sort of thing too. I haven't been able to do it yet, but go on over there anyway. :)

Third! Recently I've been engrossed in Wayne Thomas Batson's Tribe Contest for Venom and Song, he and Christopher Hopper's newest book in the Berinfell Prophecies. It's really complicated, so you can just click here to find out all about it. :)

And last, but not least, 100! Centenial!...I think that's the word.

Now, I'm going to tie this all together--because all of my words before this was a rather interesting use of foreshadowing.

The very first paragraph? It means that I am drawing close to !40! followers. Wow! And do you know what the second and third paragraphs mean? Nope, you don't. But I'll give you a hint--I'll be doing something...let's say, similar. The third paragraph is about the Tribe Contest, yes? Wait. You'll find out later what that means. Fourth? I am about to break 100 posts. Very soon. :)

To tie this altogether...something mysterious is going to happen soon. VERY soon. And it is tied to giveaways, the Tribe Contest (though very loosely), 100 posts and 40 followers.

Once I get over 100 posts and 40 followers...well, something...hm...interesting will happen. Shadow and Flame... No, not another LOTR giveaway or anything to do with LOTR! I just like that combination of words--and it has to do with all of this.

One more thing! Rabbits are holding their Thousand-Year-Meeting! So, to quote Beorn in a comment on my other blog, be prepared for all rabbits to 'go ninja'. If you want to find out more (and save your life), go here.

A GIVEAWAY!

Did I make your heart jump when you saw the title?

Unfortunately (as I do not have the financial means), it is not my giveaway. It is actually Noah's, over at his blog Books I Recommend. PLEASE do not click that link, though! I rather want that book...a lot. I have been wanting to read the book he is giving away--A Star Curiously Singing, by Kerry Nietz--for some time, and my chances go down ever time someone clicks that link. XD

I'm just kidding. Go ahead and click on the link if you must. :)

The Giveaway--the Tolkienish Something

It's here. Finally.

The giveaway.

The Tolkienish Something.

The Whizz-Bang.

All of that. Teenage Writer's first giveaway begins NOW.

How do you try to win that Tolkienish Something? You get entries. As you know, I gave a chance to guess the prize earlier and so get an extra entry, but, unfortunately, no one guessed it. :D

Anyway, there are THREE ways to get entries.

1) You must follow. Automatic entry (although this requires a comment to claim your entry) to those who already follow. To those who don't, please comment if you do decide to follow. :)

2) You must blog about it. I'd appreciate if you'd either contact me via email (see the page titled 'Contact Me' below the title of the blog) or comment on here to tell me that you blogged about it and give me the link so I can make sure that it's legit. :)

3) And for those smart cookies out there who are thinking, "It wouldn't matter if I did both of those; so will everyone else, and I'd have the same chances as if there were only one way to get entries." So that's why I have this; every day, Tuesday through Friday, I will have a post with some sort of LOTR trivia. The first person who answers correctly gets an entry. But if that first person answers correctly without looking it up, he or she gets a BONUS entry. :D I'll be relying on you guys and gals to be truthful, though. :)

Just for clarification, if that first person who answers the question correctly looks the answer up, but someone else who hadn't looked it up answers correctly after that person, the bonus entry doesn't count. :)

But what's the Tolkienish Something?

It's a The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Boxed Set, 1977 Ballantine edition. With a golden box. :) The edition I own is a little more faded and slightly frayed around the edges than this Amazon picture, but the books are in great condition for their age.

But wait! If you're thinking it's just some old copies of LOTR, prepare to be amazed. Literally just a little bit ago, I found this page on Amazon.com. Turns out this edition is quite collectable--and expensive. :)

The funniest thing? I bought it at a Goodwill for a dollar. Literally a dollar.

Two more notes;

One, I am happy to announce I will be able to ship to Canada! :D So no worries, those of you who live in Canada.

And two, if you are closely related to me, you cannot participate. ;)

Let the Giveaway begin!
